2008 Wayne County Rural Youth Homecoming King and Queen



Rural Youth Royalty Crowned

 

Jerrin Hill was crowned the 2008 Wayne County Rural Youth Homecoming Queen by 1958 queen Anita (Gindlesberger) Berry (right) at the 2008 Rural Youth Homecoming Dance held at Smithville High School's Berkey Gymnasium the evening of Saturday, November 8th.  Assisting is 1949 queen Evelyn (McKee) Cunningham.  Richard Morrison (left) was crowned king by Gary Troyer (not pictured), the 1977 king.  The dance was attended by over 100 dancers and observers of all ages.  The Stocksdale Band provided music, with Jim Silver calling dances along with former callers Tom Silver, Herb Berry, Tom McConahay, Ed Gresser and Tim Frye.

Welcome to Wayne County Rural Youth! Rural Youth was established in 1936 as a way to provide means for young people in Wayne County to get better acquainted. It died out in 1996 and was revived in 2006 for it's 70th year. Rural Youth dances feature "Wayne County Style" square dancing, line dancing, and circle/mixer dances as well. Admission is $4 each, and light refreshments are provided.
